Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Gaeltacht and Sport, Jack Chambers, announced during a visit to south Donegal today that the following funding allocations had been approved by him:
The Minister of State will also officially open gteic@na Rosa during his visit.
Announcing the grant for Oideas Gael today, Minister of State Chambers said:
"The meaningful work being carried out by the Oideas Gael organisation for many years to provide opportunities for adults throughout Ireland and the world to learn Irish in the beautiful surroundings of Gleann Colm Cille is widely recognised. Hundreds of people are attracted to the area every year as a result of Oideas Gael’s work, which adds greatly to cultural tourism and the economy of the area."
Announcing the grant for Clochán Liath GAA, Minister of State Chambers said:
"The approval of this grant through the department’s Community and Language Supports Programme will add to the work being carried out under the language planning process - which is ultimately to the benefit of the Gaeltacht and the Irish Language."
Gteic – The Gaeltacht Digital Network – is spreading throughout the Gaeltacht and innovation hubs are being developed by An tÚdarás to provide work spaces with high speed internet access for remote workers to return to the Gaeltacht. This gteic was developed with significant assistance provided through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF). gteic@Na Rosa is one of nine digital hubs being developed by Údarás na Gaeltachta in the Donegal Gaeltacht.
Minister of State Chambers said:
"This digital hub is a great facility for the An Clochán Liath area. It will provide opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs in the area and will encourage people to think of returning to the area or establish a business there. Such a development is extremely timely given the new possibilities that have arisen in relation to remote working."
While in An Clochán Liath he visited another client-company of An tÚdarás - Próiseáil Teo - a family business and the only fish-canner in Ireland. Próiseáil Teo employs in the region of 30 people, demonstrating its importance as a business in the area.
