Josepha Madigan TD, Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht has today, March 6 2020, welcomed the appointment of Ms. Maureen Kennelly as the new Director of the Arts Council. The appointment follows a transparent competitive recruitment process to fill the position previously held by Orlaith McBride.
A native of Ballylongford in Co. Kerry, Maureen is currently Director of Poetry Ireland.
Commenting on the appointment, Minister Madigan said:
"I am delighted that someone of such an impressive calibre with such a wide range of experience at a high level will be instrumental in leading the Arts Council over the next number of years. As an advocate for the Arts, I know that Maureen will build on the fantastic legacy of work from her predecessor Orlaith McBride and be a true champion for the Arts. She takes up the post at a very exciting time for the Arts Council as an organisation and the arts and culture areas as a whole."
