Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris, has today opened a new state-of-the-art Student Health Medical Centre at University College Cork (UCC).
The student health centre and accommodation supports broader commitments as outlined in the HEA Healthy Campus Framework, including enhancing the ‘Campus Environment’ to support student and staff health and wellbeing.
Speaking today, Minister Harris said:
“This is a great example of how student health and wellbeing can be put at the heart of the college experience.
“This new world-class healthcare facility will provide for:
"All these new rooms will be equipped to the highest standards of a 21st century Medical Centre.
“Student health and well-being has and always will be a top priority of mine and it is wonderful to see investment in this area through a beautiful, new Student Health Centre.
“The future is bright for UCC. This health centre will be of great benefit to the students of today and those set to come through the doors over coming years."
Professor John O’Halloran, President of UCC said:
"Today we open a stunning new purpose-built Student Health Centre in UCC. Generations of students will benefit from this facility, and I wish to thank the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science for his support and our staff who drove the development of this fantastic health centre."
In 2023, Minister Harris has provided €5 million in funding for mental health and well-being in Higher Education Institutes.
