On 26 June, Micheál Martin, the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, will attend a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.
Foreign Ministers will discuss the latest developments in the Russian invasion of Ukraine and will also hold a discussion with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. The Council will also consider how to develop EU relations with the Latin American and Caribbean region, and the EU’s approach to digital diplomacy.
The Council will also discuss Current Affairs items including the situation in Tunisia, events in Kosovo, and relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Speaking ahead of the discussion on Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Tánaiste said:
"There have been a number of high-profile developments in recent days, so this discussion is timely. We must remain focused on our support for Ukraine and I am glad that agreement has finally been reached on an 11th package of sanctions in response to Russia’s illegal invasion. This package will strengthen the implementation of our sanctions, helping to curtail circumvention."
Referring to discussion regarding the Latin American and Caribbean region, the Tánaiste stated:
"Countries in Latin American and the Caribbean can be vital allies in the EU’s efforts to protect the United Nations charter and promote a peaceful, rules-based international order. I look forward to taking stock of EU relations with this dynamic region, ahead of the Taoiseach’s attendance at the EU-CELAC summit on 17 and 18 July."
