The 2022/23 grant round for the Emigrant Support Programme (ESP) opens on Wednesday 19 January. The Emigrant Support Programme provides funding to non-profit organisations that support and connect Irish communities across the world. It is administered by the Irish Abroad Unit of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin, in partnership with Irish Embassies and Consulates abroad.
Minister of State for Overseas Development Aid and Diaspora, Colm Brophy TD said:
"I am delighted to announce the opening of the 2022 grant round of the Emigrant Support Programme. This programme provides funding to non-profit organisations that support and connect the Irish community across the world.
"I am sure that 2022 will bring large numbers of new and innovative projects, testimony to the hard work done by members of the Irish community across the world. It is inspiring to see the efforts of you, the Diaspora, in uplifting each other and celebrating our shared culture. It is an honour for the government to support these efforts through the Emigrant Support Programme."
Through the ESP, the government provides financial support to organisations engaged in the delivery of front line advisory services and community care to Irish emigrants, particularly to the more vulnerable and marginalised members of our community abroad, including the elderly. The programme also facilitates Irish Government investment in a range of cultural, community and heritage projects, which foster a vibrant sense of Irish community and identity, as well as strategic capital projects.
Since its inception in 2004, the Emigrant Support Programme has assisted over 530 organisations in over 36 countries with grants totalling over €200 million. Grants have ranged from small amounts for grass-roots groups, to major allocations awarded to voluntary and community organisations operating on a large scale. In 2021 alone, there were 541 project applications from 31 countries requesting almost €23 million worth of funding for the Programme's €13.095 million budget. Apply at: www.irishabroadgrants.ie
