Today, the Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs and Sport, Jack Chambers T.D. announced the approval of a language plan for an tEachréidh, Co. Galway under the language planning process. This means that an annual allowance of up to €100,000 will be allocated under the process to support the implementation of the plan in the area. This will allow the Eachréidh Language Plan Committee, the lead organisation in the area, to employ a Language Planning Officer to help implement the language plan in the area.
Announcing the language plan and the related annual allowance, Minister of State Chambers said: “As a result of the approval of the language plan under the language planning process, a Language Planning Officer can now be employed to assist with the implementation of the language plan in the area. This is a huge step forward for the area in relation to the preservation of the Irish language and I’m sure the local community will benefit from this significant annual investment which will be provided for the next seven years to assist with the successful implementation of the plan. I applaud the Eachréidh Language Planning Committee for the immense work they have done in preparing the plan and I wish them every success in its implementation.”
This plan is approved subject to the assurance given regarding the Language Planning Process under action 2.1 and 2.3 of the Action Plan 2018-2022.
