Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, has today (Thursday 6 April) welcomed the announcement by Coimisiún na Meán of the award of over €7.5 million under the Sound and Vision Scheme. The awards are the outcomes for Rounds 47 and 48 of the Sound and Vision Scheme.
The allocations made under Round 47 will support 96 projects for broadcast on radio and TV, with funding being allocated to documentaries, dramas, entertainment, education and animation programming all of which reflect Irish culture, heritage and experience.
Speaking today Minister Martin said:
“I am delighted to welcome this announcement from Coimisiún na Mean, and I wish to congratulate all of the successful applicants on their awards. The funding of projects across all formats and genres is important in its inclusivity, and ability to attract viewers of all ages with a broad range of programming, from drama to documentary, education to entertainment. The awards being made include an additional allocation of €1 million which was provided to the Broadcasting Fund by the Exchequer in order to continue to meet the increased demand in the sector.”
Commenting on the allocation of €645,000 to 17 community broadcasters under Round 48 to enhance social benefit content and activities within the community, Minister Martin added:
“The funding of Community broadcasting, not only for programme production but also for outreach and training activities, reinforces the importance of the Sound and Vision Scheme in its ability to identify and support areas of importance within the sector. I particularly welcome the inclusion for the first time of Community TV in such a funding round.”
