Her Excellency, Nimisha Madhvani, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency, Mr. Douangmany Gnotsyoudom, Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and His Excellency, Dr. Thomas Bisika, Ambassador of the Republic of Malawi, presented their Letters of Credence to President Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin today.
Her Excellency Nimisha Madhvani, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda was accompanied by her daughter Ms. Shifa Madhvani and Mr. John Leonard Mugerwa, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda.
His Excellency Mr. Douangmany Gnotsyoudom, Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, was accompanied by his spouse Mrs. Soudalack Phounsavath, his daughter Ms. Vimalaphone Gnotsyoudom and Ms. Souvanthorng Malavong, Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
His Excellency Dr. Thomas Bisika, Ambassador of the Republic of Malawi, was accompanied by his spouse Mrs. Chawona Bisika, and Mr. Kondwani Tiopaizi, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Malawi.
Mr. James Browne, Minister of State at the Department of Justice with special responsibility for Law Reform and Youth Justice, represented the government at the ceremony.
The following were also present: Ms. Orla O’Hanrahan, Secretary General to the President; Mr Michael Gaffey, Director General, Development Cooperation and Africa Division, Department of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Paul Kavanagh, Chief of Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs; Col Stephen Howard, Comdt Brian Walsh, Comdt Deirdre Newell, Capt Pól Ó Domhnaill, Aides-de-Camp to the President; Mr. Joe Brennan and Ms Cathy Barnicle, Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassadors were accompanied to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the the 2 Brigade Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Lieutenant Lt Evan Duggan.
A Guard of Honour was provided at Áras an Uachtaráin by the 1 Brigade Artillery Regiment, Collins Barracks, Cork under the command of Lieutenant Robert Sheehan.
Lieutenant Patrick Grennan from 1 Brigade Artillery Regiment, Collins Barracks, Cork was the flag officer.
Captain Tom Kelly conducted the Army Number 1 Band, based in Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin.
