Announcing the delivery output for 2018, Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government Eoghan Murphy said:
“Roughly one in four new homes built last year was a Social Housing Home. The new build figure is 85% up on last year and eight times higher than 2015 – the year before Rebuilding Ireland began. This is not a coincidence.”
“Our plan to dramatically increase supply is working. A real improvement was made for thousands of families last year. But still there is a lot more work to do for those who are depending on us, not least those in emergency accommodation. I will continue to drive the delivery of new houses and housing solutions, working with the local authorities and housing bodies.”
“While there is no quick fix, our housing plan is now showing real progress in the delivery of new homes and new social housing homes. We’ve also recently seen moderation in rents and property prices.”
“This is about more than delivering blocks and roofs; it’s about delivering sustainable and affordable homes and communities.”
