Minister Ring allocates over €1.5 million to Saint Vincent De Paul and Protestant Aid

The Minister for Rural and Community Development , Michael Ring TD, today announced the provision of €1,410,000 and €180,000 respectively to St Vincent De Paul (SVP) and Protestant Aid.
This funding recognises the contribution of these organisations in fighting poverty through the provision of practical assistance to people in need across Ireland.
Minister Ring said:
“These organisations play a huge role in helping the most disadvantaged in society. I am delighted to be able to continue this funding, which is in line with what the Department has provided over the last number of years. The funding will go towards assisting families with basic needs over the coming period.
“The work of these organisations stretches across the country and attempts to address a wide range of needs within our community, including financial distress caused by; homelessness, unemployment, addiction, physical or mental health and bereavement. These issues form just some of the situations that they encounter every day.”
Protestant Aid stated that with Government support they are often in a position to help address these situations. The following examples of feedback received through Social Workers shows the difference this funding has made to their clients (actual names not used) .
“I am writing on behalf of my client John, who recently received funding from Protestant Aid. With this funding he has purchased the equipment he needs to resume his full-time job as a scaffolder. This is incredible for John, he was in active addiction two years ago and sleeping rough. He is now earning a living wage – this is the happiest I have seen him and it is down to your support. You have provided John with the essentials for him to pursue a career he is passionate about and have directly supported him to progress his life for the better.” – Social Worker, Dublin .
“Thank you for the support given to Anne. Having been homeless for nearly two years, moving into her new council apartment was a challenge. The help you provided has enabled the purchase of many household basics and given encouragement and hope where it did not otherwise exist. Anne is very grateful to you for this support.” – Social Worker, Limerick .
“A quick line to say a big thank you for the General Grant Funding for my clients. The help towards the cost of transport and meals while they attend medical appointments and treatment removes a serious burden from their already stressed lives. It has given them some light and they appreciate the care and compassion demonstrated. Many thanks.” –Social Worker, Dublin .
