Tánaiste visits Jerusalem and Amman

The Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Micheál Martin's visit to the Middle East continues today in Jerusalem and Amman, with a range of engagements with high level political interlocutors, UN agencies, university authorities and students.
The Tánaiste will first meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog in the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.
The Tánaiste will then travel to Jordan, where he will visit Khalda Refugee Registration Centre to meet with a number of United Nations Agencies which Ireland supports, including the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, World Food Programme (WFP) and UNICEF, as well as with Syrian refugees in the centre.
The Tánaiste will then meet with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Jordan, H.E. Ayman Safadi and will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Ireland and Jordan to establish Political Consultations.
The Tánaiste will then visit Hussein Technical University and discuss innovation with the university faculty, and participants in the ‘Embassy for Youth Entrepreneurship Programme’, who have visited Ireland. The Tánaiste will also meet the winners of the Jordan Young Scientist 2023 and present prizes to the winning projects.

"I look forward to meeting Israeli President Isaac Herzog and discussing our bilateral relations and regional issues.
"I am looking forward to my first visit to Jordan as Tánaiste. Our Embassy opened four years ago and we have seen really positive progress in our relations with Jordan, including Ireland’s support for the Jordan Young Scientist Programme and other innovation initiatives.
"Jordan hosts a significant number of refugees from Syria, the occupied Palestinian territory, and elsewhere. I will meet with Syrian refugees and UN partners to reiterate Ireland’s continuing support.
"My meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, H.E. Ayman Safadi will also be an important opportunity to discuss and hear his perspective on bilateral and regional issues."
