Minister for Defence and Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney, today, met with the members of the Independent Review Group (IRG) which was established on 25 January last to examine dignity and equality issues in the Defence Forces.
The Group updated the Minister on the work undertaken to-date and on progress in finalising their report. The Chairperson, Ms. Justice O’Hanlon, advised the Minister that they expected to submit the final report to him before the end of January.
The Minister paid tribute to the Group for their dedication to the taskings assigned to them:
"It is clear from the monthly updates I received that the Group have undertaken an extensive body of work, and with the support of their independent Secretariat, have shown great commitment and dedication with regard to the Terms of Reference. As I have consistently said, this Review is a critical first step in ensuring that members of the Defence Forces can undertake their duties in a workplace underpinned by dignity and equality with zero-tolerance for unacceptable behaviour.
"I very much look forward to receiving the final report before the end of January."
