Minister for Mental Health and Older People, Mary Butler, welcomes today’s joint statement from the Health Service Executive (HSE) and St John of God Community Services regarding the agreement they have reached to allow the Service to continue to provide its full range of publicly funded supports at all existing locations.
This announcement will bring reassurance to the over 8,000 service users at St John of God Community Services and their families, providing certainty that services will continue.
Minister Butler said:
"I welcome today’s announcement. This is good news and the HSE and St John of God Community Services have worked together in the best interests of those using their services. It removes uncertainty for thousands of service users and their families, and it is the outcome that we had hoped for and that both parties have worked hard to achieve.
"St John of God Community Services provide essential, high quality mental health services to thousands of children and adults, supported by over 300 dedicated staff, and the withdrawal of the notice of transfer of services will be a relief to all. As Minister I want to acknowledge that there are growing demands on our mental health services, and both St John of God Community Services and the HSE have striven to maintain services, with the service user at the core of all considerations throughout this process."
