The Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys TD, today hosted the Department’s annual Pre-Budget Forum in Dublin Castle.
This forum offers a unique opportunity for NGOs, trade union and business representatives to discuss policy issues and present their priorities for the upcoming Budget.
Minister Humphreys was joined by Joe O’Brien, Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development, Integration and Charities.
Representatives from a broad range of organisations and community groups attended the Forum. The event was moderated by Mary Kennedy, broadcaster.
Speaking at the Forum, Minister Humphreys acknowledged how the input from attendees at the annual Pre-Budget Forum has helped her and her officials prioritise previous Budget initiatives.
The Forum provided for five thematic workshops which gave stakeholders the opportunity to discuss their priorities.
Addressing the Forum, Minister Humphreys said:
“This event provides me with a unique opportunity to hear the evidence and policy analysis from the organisations who advocate so passionately for their constituencies and the people that we all serve – whether that is pensioners, carers, people with disabilities or others who rely on social welfare supports.”
Also speaking at the Forum, Minister O’Brien said:
“The Forum is always a hugely important event - providing an opportunity for organisations to set out their priorities for the upcoming budget and therefore help Minister Humphreys and I to enter Budget negotiations and make the strongest case possible for additional resources to be included in the Budget’s Social Welfare package.”
