"I was pleased to have the opportunity to speak today to UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy.
"I welcomed, in particular, the renewed warmth in our bilateral relationship. This was particularly evident in my meetings with Prime Minister Starmer in recent months, including at the British Irish Council Summit in December in Edinburgh. Our two governments shared roles as co guarantors of the Good Friday Agreement is a fundamental bedrock of our bilateral relationship.
"My call with the Foreign Secretary today was an important opportunity to share perspectives on the global challenges that we face. We focussed in particular on the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East and Sudan. We also discussed the importance of the transatlantic relationship. We agreed to meet in-person soon to engage further on these and other important areas.
"As I meet today also with EU Foreign Ministers, the call was an opportunity to welcome the renewed positive engagement of the UK on EU-UK relations. As partners with shared values in a globally challenging environment, there is real potential to work further together on the common global challenges that we face.
"I look forward to working closely with Foreign Secretary Lammy over the time ahead, including as we build towards the Ireland United Kingdom Summit later this spring."
