The first meeting of Ireland’s Public Service Leadership Board (PSLB) took place this morning ( 23 March 2018) in Government Buildings.
The PSLB has been established to lead the delivery of the public service reform plan Our Public Service 2020 .
For the first time, both civil and public service leaders and managers will jointly drive the reform programme as part of a Public Service Leadership Board.
This will ensure there is shared ownership of the actions right across the public service. The role of the PSLB is to provide overall strategic leadership for public service development and innovation across the public service.
Minister Donohoe, in addressing the PSLB members this morning, said:
“This is a significant day. The Public Service Leadership Board (PSLB) is an important innovation that can shape and drive the development of our public service in important ways and effectively lead Ireland’s public service into the future.
"Public service leaders are facing many challenges. These issues are both complex and indeed bigger than any one public service organisation is capable of effectively dealing with alone. It requires all of our combined talent and ingenuity to address them, collectively and collaboratively.
"The work of the Public Service Leadership Board in leading reform through Our Public Service 2020 matters to all of us because it will drive the development and the innovation of our public service and delivery of public services to our people.
"I wish the board every success in the future.”
Robert Watt, Secretary General of the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform, who is chairing the PSLB said:
“Having a strong and united public service that is trusted, dynamic and effective in addressing the long-term challenges ahead is critical to our shared future. The challenge for us, as public service leaders, is to inspire and facilitate our people to achieve their potential.”
The PSLB will meet quarterly and will receive regular reports on implementation of the prioritised individual actions in the framework. Each PSLB member will also have a specific role to lead at least one framework action.
Our Public Service 2020 was launched by Minister Donohoe on 12 December 2017. For further information please see link to relevant press release. All documents in relation to Our Public Service 2020 can be found on https://ops2020.gov.ie/
