Applications are sought from providers to complete a Review on the operation of section 7A of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 1993
Section 7A of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 1993 makes it an offence for a person to pay, give, offer or promise to pay or give a person (including a prostitute) money or any other form of remuneration or consideration for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with a prostitute. Section 27 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017 provides that a review on the operation of section 7A of the 1993 act will be conducted.
The Department of Justice is inviting expressions of interest from an external consultant to complete this review, to be concluded within 4 months of being commissioned and of the agreed start date.
Detailed consultations with relevant statutory agencies and civil society organisations working with persons engaged in prostitution and with victims of human trafficking have already taken place; the results of which will be made available to the successful applicant.
