This report presents the data on the Government Research and Development (R&D) Budget and on Ireland's R&D expenditure across all sectors for the years 2022-2023.
This report continues to capture the amount of public research expenditure as comprehensively as possible by working closely with Government Departments and their Agencies that take part in the survey.
For this report covering the outturn for 2022 and allocations for 2023, a total of 49 Government Departments and agencies took part in the survey. See Appendix 5 for the list of Departments.
Individual Government Departments and their Agencies are responsible for driving the research and innovation agenda in the sectors under their remits. DFHERIS plays a central system role by bringing these actors together to ensure a cohesive approach and by bringing together the wider research community to realise the vision and ambition of Impact 2030: Ireland’s Research and Innovation Strategy.
The results of the survey will be submitted to Eurostat via the Central Statistics Office and the data will also be used for the development and implementation of policies and strategies, such as Impact 2030: Ireland’s Research and Innovation Strategy .
