The climate crisis is the defining challenge of our time. We have the opportunity to act now to mitigate the worst effects of climate change and secure a resilient future for generations to come.
The Programme for Government and the Climate Act 2021 commit Ireland to halving our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 2018 levels and reaching net zero by 2050. Our pathway to achieving these targets is set out in the Climate Action Plan.
It is critical that our ambition is matched with action. Our progress on the journey to net zero is tracked by quarterly Progress Reports on the Climate Action Plan, outlining how we are performing across all sectors, with additional attention to high impact actions due for delivery. The latest Progress Report on the Climate Action Plan 2021 details progress made on 257 climate action measures due in Q4 2022. It highlights impactful climate action progress, on a number of measures with high mitigation and/or adaptation potential. The report also emphasises the need to continue identifying and addressing barriers to implementation.
