Strand 2 of the Counselling in Primary Schools Pilot

Strand 2 of the pilot is the introduction of Education Wellbeing Teams in clusters of schools in Carlow, Cork, Dublin 7 and Dublin 16 for the very first time, with the introduction of Education Wellbeing Practitioners under the supervision of NEPS psychologists. The list of Strand 2 schools is below.
The supports being provided focus on:
• Strengthening whole school preventative approaches to promoting wellbeing and mental health, in line with the Department of Education’s Wellbeing Policy and Framework for Practice.
• Offering psycho-educational support for parents, school staff and pupils.
• Providing early intervention to children using therapeutic approaches and evidence-based interventions to prevent mild and emerging wellbeing needs.

On 17th October 2024, Minister for Education Norma Foley announced details of a grant scheme to augment the supports being provided by Education Wellbeing Teams
Strand 2 school clusters in Cork, Carlow, Dublin 7 and Dublin 16 will receive a once-off payment of €2,000 to promote and support wellbeing-focused initiatives among their school communities in the 2024 / 2025 school year. The schools will receive the €2,000 grant funding directly.
