This report on Roma in Ireland is the fourteenth report in the Statistical Spotlights series. These Spotlight publications are focused on a specific topic, and gather available statistical data to highlight trends or patterns. This Spotlight #14 collates available data on the Roma community in Ireland, from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) Census of Population 2022, Pobal, Department of Education, Pavee Point Traveller and Roma Centre, Nasc Ireland, and other sources. The report examines data from the most recent Census of Population (2022), in which Roma was included as an individual category on the question of ethnicity for the first time. The report provides an overview of data available on the Roma population in Ireland, including family composition, health, and education in the Roma community, as well as providing an insight into Ireland’s attitudes to persons of varying ethnicities. The information in the report will facilitate policy-making and serve to improve the services and supports available for these communities.
