Project title: Computer Science in Every Secondary School in Longford - Creating the Demand - Shaping Our County’s Future

This project seeks to be the first county with Computer Science as a leaving cert option in all nine secondary schools. Longford County Council will collaborate with industry experts (Microsoft & Ericsson) and upskill teachers in the county by creating a learning network, providing ICT equipment/resources using Micro: bits coding education resources and Microsoft’s Dreamspace Academy.
Intended outcomes:
1. Support 12 primary schools in the commencement and completion of the Microsoft Dream Space Challenge and rollout of Micro: bits. This will be expanded to 24 primary schools in 2024 and 27 schools in 2025.
2. Complete a series of technology-based competitions with 402 students across 12 primary schools using Micro: bits and Microsoft’s Dream Space Academy.
3. Conduct a series of events across all primary and post primary schools in Longford, designed to generate interest and increasing the expression of interest in Computer Science for the Leaving Cert (target of 60 students from across 4 Longford Secondary schools.
