The Minister for children is proud to announce a launched My Little Library Book Bag 2024, which will provide every child starting school with free books and inviting them to join their local library.
The First 5 My Little Library initiative aim is to build strong links between young children and their local library. Over the past two years, children leaving the Early Childhood and Care and Education (ECCE) pre-school programme and starting primary school were invited to visit their local library to pick up their book bag and take the opportunity to join the library. The launch this year follows a successful pilot project in 2023, which resulted in tens of thousands of children collecting their book bags and joining their local library.
If your child is starting school and has not received an invitation, that’s no problem. Pop down to your local library with some I.D. and tell the librarian your child’s date of birth and they will have your book bag and special library card ready.
