The Government of Ireland Reduce Your Use/Stay Warm and Well campaign was developed in response to the energy crisis. Since 2022, the campaign has provided advice to the public on how to reduce energy use where possible and safe to do so, while raising awareness of Government of Ireland supports.
The campaign was developed by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications with the support of agencies and other Government departments including the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI); the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU); EirGrid; ESB Networks; Gas Networks Ireland; the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment; the Department of the Taoiseach; and the Department of Transport.
A key component of the campaign is to ensure that the Government is actively listening to the public, seeking to understand and respond to their needs and concerns in order to determine the most useful advice and information in relation to energy consumption, energy efficiency and Government supports. To ensure this is achieved, quantitative research was carried out by Amárach between October 2022 and March 2024. A nationally representative group was surveyed to test the response to messaging and consumer sentiment.
