Project title: AI interpretation of routine mammographic studies in symptomatic breast centre
Organisation: Beaumont Hospital
Sector: Health
Amount awarded: €45,000
Beaumont Hospital will conduct a retrospective validation study using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) mammography interpretation product called Mia TM version 2.0.1 - an AI system from Kheiron Medical Technologies. The design of the algorithm is to assess its overall accuracy in cancer detection and categorisation of breast density in patients attending a symptomatic breast service.
Intended outcomes:
1. Examining the accuracy of the AI solution in detecting breast malignancy and determining if it is a viable option for national screening programmes for patients deemed medium/high risk for breast cancer.
2. Provide an independent and reproducible method in the future of stratifying patients as needing/not needing additional imaging.
3. Enhanced integration with the National Integrated Medical Imaging System (NIMIS), accelerating its deployment to other cancers on the national PACS system.
4. Place AI as an additional reader for routine mammographic studies performed in the symptomatic breast service in patients presenting with low risk breast symptoms and a normal breast examination.
