FutureFoodS is an innovative European partnership focused on transforming Europe's food production and consumption towards more sustainable and resilient systems. This partnership brings together leading experts, research institutions, businesses and policymakers to develop joint solutions to the complex challenges facing our food systems, such as climate change, biodiversity loss and food security.
Its first co-fund call brings together 36 funding organizations from 19 countries and the European Commission, jointly committing up to 40 million Euros to support innovative research and development projects focused on creating a sustainable food future.
The call offers funding for innovative projects that contribute to one of the following topics:
Topic 1: The way towards sustainable and resilient food systems
Topic 2: New foods – Fostering innovations in food design, processing and supply via demand and supply reorientation
Topic 3: Empowering sustainable food choices – Enabling food environments and dietary shifts

Horizon Europe Partnerships European Research Area Networks (ERANETS)
The Shared Island Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative 2024 Call is now open for applications. The Call has a total budget of €9 million. Closing date for applications is 07 June 2024 at 12pm (noon).

Minister Heydon launches the 2024 US-Ireland Research and Development Partnership in Agriculture covering 13 research areas such as animal breeding, health and welfare, data science, sustainability of agroecosystems and the bioeconomy and soil health.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) invites eligible Irish Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) to submit joint research proposals under the ICT-AGRI-FOOD ERANET Joint Call on “Tackling digitalisation for sound agriculture and food systems”.
The Joint Call aims to bring together actors from across the entire food system (from conventional and organic supply chains) in a multi-actor approach to develop digital technology solutions that will enable the transition to more sustainable, transparent and resilient agri-food systems.
DAFM will provide a total of €1M in funding for Irish consortia applying under 2024 Joint Call with a maximum budget for Irish partners of €500K per project.
Applicants seeking grant-aid from DAFM can apply for funding under any of the scientific topic areas which include:
• Topic 1: Accelerate digitalisation in the agri-food sector by use of AI-systems (machine learning, deep learning, neural network approaches)
• Topic 2: Post-industrial agriculture: the best knowledge and digital technologies for reviving and strengthening best practices for regenerative agriculture
• Topic 3: Smart decision-making and reflection systems in farming
• Topic 4: Open Topic
Guidelines for Irish Applicants can be found on the [external-link Research - Open Calls | Open Calls ] section of the DAFM website which sets out in more detail the rules for Irish applicants seeking grant-aid under the 2024 ICT-AGRI-FOOD Joint Call and must be read in conjunction with the requirements set out in this National Annex and the Call Announcement of the 2024 Joint Call.
The Joint Call follows a two-step submission and evaluation procedure.
• Deadline for pre-registry of proposals:
Friday, 24.05.2024, 13:00 h (CEST, Brussels time)
• Deadline for submission of full proposals:
Monday, 08.07.2024, 13:00 h (CEST, Brussels time)
The pre-registration step is mandatory. It is possible to add, delete or replace proposal partners after the pre-registration step. However, any research partner, who joins the consortium after the pre-registration deadline, must inform the respective national or regional contact point.
