Project title: Automated extraction of kidney failure concepts from clinical notes using AI
Organisation: Health Service Executive
Sector: Health
Amount awarded: €43,000
This project seeks to deliver efficiencies in the use of the Kidney Disease Clinical Patient Management System (KDCPMS) by using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to extract key information from unstructured or free-text data in the KDCPMS and populate structured data fields. This will make it easier and more efficient to carry out a range of clinical audits, quality improvement projects, and clinical research using the KDCPMS data.
Intended outcomes:
1. Deliver efficiencies by enabling the use of Kidney Disease Clinical Patient Management System for national clinical audits and quality improvement projects.
2. Reduction in operational costs, time, and resources.
3. Provide benefits for the end user and enable healthcare providers to better understand the needs and care of their patients, and to develop and implement more effective treatments and interventions.
4. Support the development of a national renal registry for patients with kidney failure.
