Bioeconomy Funding Opportunities in Ireland and Europe – 2023 Edition
Sub heading: EU Just Transition Fund Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative
The EU Just Transition Fund Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund. The funding offers the opportunity to support close collaboration between stakeholders along the entire bio-based value chain at the Just Transition Fund territorial level, including SMEs, research performing organisations, universities, local authorities, clusters, primary producers, bioprocessing industries, and consumer brands.
A 2023 Call for proposals under this scheme, offering total funding of €10 million, was opened by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine between 16 August to 13 October 2023.
For more information on the 2023 Call for proposals, please see: 2023 EU Just Transition Fund Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative .
It is anticipated that another EU Just Transition Fund Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative Scheme Call will open in 2024.
Through the Shared Island Initiative , the Government of Ireland awarded funding for an all-Island bioeconomy demonstrator initiative to support the integration of biobased innovation in the agriculture and marine sectors across the island of Ireland.
In response, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, working in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland, established the ‘Shared Island Fund Bioeconomy Demonstration Initiative Scheme’.
A 2024 Call for proposals under this scheme, offering total funding of €9 million, was opened by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine between 05 March to 07 June 2024. Applications under this Call are currently being evaluated by DAFM and DAERA, with an announcement of successful proposals expected in 2025.
