The State of the Nation’s Children: Ireland Report (SONC) was introduced in 2006, and was an outcome of the publication of the National Set of Child Well-Being Indicators a year earlier. It was subsequently published up to 2016 on a biennial basis, in PDF and hardcopy format, compiling data from numerous domestic and international sources. All previous publications of the report are available here.
DCEDIY has now transformed and modernised the delivery of the report by moving to a web version, with links provided to the underlying data tables. This new format has many benefits for users, for example, users will have access to the most up-to-date version of the data, and will be able to access previous and additional data not included in the current version of SONC through the links to the underlying data tables. In line with the government’s Open Data Initiative, much of the data is available in an open, machine-readable format.
SONC is produced by the DCEDIY Data and Analytics Unit. The majority of the data are housed in the Central Statistics Office’s (CSO) PxStat system. The current SONC data was last updated in December 2024.
