Coordinator of Dublin City Council BETA , Shane Waring, on the Innovation Fund-supported social housing maintenance transformation project from Dublin City Council in collaboration with NCAD and the HSE:
"Dublin City Council (as the largest landlord in the State) spends approximately €120m per annum on the provision of Housing Maintenance services. However, the systems used for repair requests are at end of life, with limited functionality.
This project offers the opportunity to transform a service, and safely demonstrate how user-centred design can improve and amplify the experience for tenants and staff, and be an exemplar for other services at Dublin City Council.
For residents living in social housing, this project will improve their quality of lives by better providing a service to meet their needs and particularly of vulnerable social housing residents. For the wider taxpayer, it will mean a more efficient service provision by Dublin City Council. The datasets and insights from this project will also have broad applicability across local authorities, here in Ireland and internationally.
This project illustrates the potential for Public Service innovation/transformation which is all about fostering a culture of experimentation, adaptability, continuous improvement and promoting collaboration and co-creation with stakeholders – often rethinking traditional models of service provision and adopting modern technologies.
Ultimately, it means to drive positive change, increase citizen satisfaction and achieve better outcomes for society as a whole."
