Alongside the huge efforts to bring accommodation onstream each week, we are progressing the Comprehensive Accommodation Strategy, bringing more State-owned accommodation into use. This includes the former St Brigid’s Nursing Home, Crooksling.
Crooksling International Protection Accommodation Centre is comprised of 10-to-12-person robust, weather-proof tents. There are heating facilities on site in the form of portable heaters, and electricity facilities are provided in the indoor sections of the site.
Toilets, shower and laundry facilities on site are cleaned every thirty minutes via a rota system. Residents also have access to indoor areas where food is provided; facilities to charge phones and personal devices; and 24-hour onsite security.
The development is being progressed by Ministerial Order. This process is being used as the State responds to extreme challenges in terms of accommodation for people seeking international and temporary protection in Ireland.
The Department will comply with all the statutory regulations that apply to the project.
Appropriate Assessment Screening and Environmental Impact Assessment Screening reports were completed and the area was screened out.
