The Department of Transport has published its Strategic Approach to Public Engagement on Climate Action and Sustainable Mobility 2024-25. Its aim is to strengthen the social contract between the public and the State for climate action and sustainable mobility – through an inclusive programme of engagement at national, regional and community levels – and to empower the people of Ireland to take climate action.
The guiding principle is that engagement is a two-way process, in which the State not only leads, but also listens and learns, working with communities and stakeholders across Ireland in a collaborative partnership, which is aimed at bringing about positive changes that will deliver a better, cleaner and fairer transport system for all of our people, both now and into the future.
The objectives outlined in the Strategy are an integral part of the Whole-of-Government approach to climate engagement and communications, as outlined in Climate Action Plan 2024, and are aligned with Ireland’s commitment to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, notably SDG 13, ‘Climate Action’, and 11, ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’.
