The Programme for Government committed to the establishment of an Expert Forum on Anti-Social Behaviour and Minister of State James Browne TD established this Forum in 2020.
The forum is considering the effectiveness of existing legislation and looking at proposals for new ways forward, including new powers for An Garda Síochána and additional interventions to support parenting of offenders.
Sub-groups of the Forum have been established to examine particular issues, such as the misuse of scramblers and quad bikes, and a community based initiative to tackle this issue has been created with input from the Forum.
A subgroup of the forum has recently been established to examine the issue of knife crime and similar sub-groups can be established to examine other issues as required.
The Forum is chaired by Minister of State Browne and draws its membership from Government Departments, An Garda Síochána, the Probation Service, Tusla, academia, business groups and Non-Governmental Organisations.
