The Chief Economist has responsibility for Economic Policy Division including:

macroeconomic analysis and forecasting
developing a strategy for the Irish economy across all sectors
the economic analysis of Department policies
responsibility at Assistant Secretary level for overall budgetary policy

In relation to budgetary policy, the Chief Economist has responsibility to:

coordinate the budgetary process in accordance with the EU Semester
monitor Exchequer returns
forecast tax receipts
analyse the impact of policy options on government finances
