Music Generation is a non-mainstream out of school national music education programme that aims to transform the lives of children and young people through access to high-quality, subsidised performance music education.
Music Generation focuses on the provision of performance music education – that is, the breadth of vocal and instrumental learning in all genres and styles of music in out of school settings. This includes all pedagogical approaches and practices appropriate to particular musical cultures and traditions, and is delivered by professional musician tutors.
Music Generation was established in 2010 and along with philanthropic funding and other sources of funding, the Department of Education also provides annual funding to Music Generation. In 2021, the Department of Education has allocated over 6.5million to Music Generation.
