It may be possible for teachers or non-teaching staff to transfer their previous public sector pension entitlements to their current scheme.
If you are seeking to establish if your pension from your former or current employment is subject to transfer - you should consult the Public Sector Transfer Network (PSTN).
Prior to 2011 certain categories of part time teaching service was paid to teachers directly by the Board of Management of the school and not from the payroll of this department. This was changed with the introduction of legislation for part time workers.
It is now possible to transfer part time teaching service. Teachers or former teachers who, prior to 1 September 2001, provided a minimum of 9 hours per week in a school can seek to have that service transferred.
For part time teaching service provided from 1 September 2001, all part time service can be transferred. There is no minimum hour requirement.
In order for teachers or former teachers to have their part time teaching service considered for transfer a form Verification of Teaching Service needs to be completed by the school in which you provided the part time teaching service.
It is also important for teachers or former teachers to be in a position to verify to the department whether or not the part time service in question was provided in a qualified or unqualified capacity. The most acceptable method to determine qualified or unqualified service is for teachers to permit the Teaching Council of Ireland to display their qualification to the department.
Teachers or former teachers are reminded that only the part time teaching service which was not paid directly to you by this department requires the Service Verification form to be completed.
Prior to 2011 certain categories of non-teaching staff were paid directly by the Board of Management of the school and not from the payroll of this department.
This was changed with the introduction of legislation for part time workers.
It is now possible to transfer part time teaching service subject to certain conditions.
Non-teaching staff who, prior to 1 September 2001, provided a minimum of 10 hours per week in a school can seek to have that service transferred.
For part time service provided from 1 September 2001 there is no minimum hour requirement.
In order for non-teaching staff to have their part time service considered for transfer a form Verification of Service (S1a) needs to be completed by the school in which you provided the service.
It is also important for non-teaching staff to be in a position to verify to the department.
Non-teaching staff are reminded that only the service which was not paid directly to you by this department requires the Verification of Service form to be completed.
The employment records and pensionable service records for all government departments and offices are now held centrally by PeoplePoint Ltd, HR & Pensions Shared Services, Belfield Office Park, Beech Hill Road, Clonskeagh, Dublin 4.

For current teachers or non-teaching staff who wish to have public sector service from previous employment, which is listed on the PSTN, included in their current teachers or non-teaching staff pension, they should complete the Confirmation of Public Sector Service form and send it to your previous employer who will then forward the form to this department.
In light of the various organisations involved in the transfer of pension entitlements, teachers or non-teaching staff seeking to transfer in their previous service should do so at least 6 months prior to their retirement date. Applications are processed based on the retirement date and the date of birth of the applicant.
