Leave of absence following assault for school staff

Leave of absence may be granted to a teacher or special needs assistant who is unable to perform their duties due to a physical injury following an assault that happened in the course of their duties and during approved school activities.
Leave is granted in accordance with the provisions of the scheme outlined in the Circulars 0061/2017 and 0062/2017 .
An application form (Appendix A of the Circular) must be completed by the teacher or SNA concerned and by the employer. It must be forwarded by the employer to the department, or Education and Training Boards within a week of the incident.
