The National Car Test is a mandatory check to make sure that vehicles are safe to be on Ireland's roads.

cars which are less than 3 years old do not require a test
cars which are between 4 and 9 years old are required to be tested every two years
cars which are between 10 and 29 years old are required to be tested every year
cars that are between 30 and 39 years old are required to be tested twice a year
cars that are over 39 years old are exempt from testing
