You must be on the register of fishmeal and blood product users in order to purchase these products or compound feed found which contains them.
This measure is required under EU law and is aimed at protecting animal and human health by preventing the spread of certain diseases known as Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE).
You must comply with the conditions of the scheme to be included on the register. For example fishmeal, blood products or feed which contains them must be sourced from approved operators. Feedingstuffs containing fishmeal or blood products must not be fed to ruminant animals including cattle, sheep, deer or goats.

The full terms and conditions are included on the application form for registration. If the applicant has ruminant animals or a current Department Herd number, an inspection of the premises will be carried out by a veterinary officer from the local District Veterinary Office prior to registration.
