The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) offers Japanese Studies Student Scholarships to Irish undergraduates between the ages of 17 - 25 to study at designated Japanese universities for a period of one year as part of their degree, in order to deepen their understanding of the Japanese language and Japanese culture and affairs.
The scholarship is for one year at a university decided by MEXT. However, candidates can state their preference from a selection of universities in their application. The Japanese Government provides living expenses, university fees and return airfare.
Successful candidates are expected to have a level of Japanese ability equivalent to Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2.
