Ian Rathmell

Ian Rathmell is 22 years old and is a graduate planner with MKO.

Originally from North Carolina, he came to Ireland after high school and completed his bachelor’s in Planning and Environmental Policy at UCD. He now lives and works in Galway.

He went into planning to help drive the changes needed to our cities and towns to meet the challenges of the climate crisis, while ensuring that they simultaneously become ever more pleasant and vibrant places to live for their local communities.

He has a long-standing interest in sustainable and active transport and urban design, and is currently enjoying working on a variety of housing and public infrastructure projects.

These range from mixed-use developments to greenways, public parks, and medical facilities. His favourite part of working in planning is that the phrase ‘Every day is a school day’ always rings true and that he gets to dive into a new topic or idea with each new project.

Outside of work Ian is always moving and staying active, and enjoys swimming, climbing, hiking, cycling, and generally exploring and getting to know Ireland better.
