Learning for Life: White Paper on Adult Education July 2000

The Green Paper: Adult Education in an Era of Lifelong Learning set out the role of adult education as a vital component in a continuum of lifelong learning. It outlined the contribution of the sector in promoting competitiveness and employment, addressing inter-generational poverty and disadvantage, strengthening individuals, families and communities, and promoting democracy and social cohesion.

A major selling point in the new knowledge society is a well developed education and training system and a workforce which is adaptable and willing to learn new skills.
