South East Technological University's first president named by Minister Harris

Minister of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, has today confirmed the designation of Professor Veronica Campbell as the first president of the South East Technological University.

Professor Campbell's appointment is subject to final approval by the governing authority.

Speaking today, Minister Harris said:

"The South East Technological University will become a reality in just three days' time.

"I wish to congratulate Professor Campbell on this appointment. She will lead the TU on this journey. Veronica has a distinguished career of academia, strategic investment and innovation.

"I wish her all the best in this role. SETU is of vital importance for the country.

"Professor Campbell also becomes the third female president of a TU. Less than 2 years ago, we had no female presidents in the higher education sector. Now we have 6. The glass ceiling has been well and truly shattered."

The appointment follows an open and competitive process chaired by Professor Brian MacCraith. There were 22 applications.

Professor Campbell has worked in higher education for 25 years. Originally from Scotland, Professor Campbell has served as Director of Strategic Innovation and Dean of Graduate Studies in Trinity College Dublin. Professor Campbell has also served as a member of the board of Trinity College, and a member of the finance committee, among many others.
