Office of the Government Chief Information Officer

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) is the division of DPENDR that acts as the strategic advisor to Government on digital government. OGCIO plays a leadership role in digital service delivery and innovation initiatives working in collaboration with and providing advice to Government Departments and agencies across the Civil and Public Service.

OGCIO leads on ICT/ digital /data-related strategy developments and published Connecting Government 2030 A Digital and ICT Strategy for Ireland’s Public Service. The strategy sets out an approach to deliver digital government for all, benefitting both society and the broader economy. It addresses the digitalisation of Public Services dimension of the national digital strategy, Harnessing Digital – The Digital Ireland Framework which is Ireland’s response to the EU Digital Decade. OGCIO also leads on the Public Service Data Strategy 2019-2023 with work underway on a new data strategy in collaboration with the Data Governance Board.

OGCIO acts as technical implementation and delivery partner to the Civil and Public Service through its Government as a Platform and Build to Share suite of services including Government Networks, national low latency platform, managed desktop, government private cloud, applications suite and the gov.ie and Ireland.ie websites.

OGCIO also has an oversight and approval role in respect of digital and ICT-related initiatives proposed by Departments and agencies; sits on the Technology and Transformation Committee of the HSE Board and the LGMA’s ICT Committee; leads on ICT professionalisation for the Civil Service; supporting Ireland’s representation at EU level including at Government CIO working groups and forums in other multilateral organisations; and engages with industry, representative bodies and academia to further the national digital agenda.
