Data Sharing Agreement for the sharing of the Unique Business Identifier Number Data

The Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform (DPENDR) has entered into a Data Sharing Agreement (DSA) under the Data Sharing and Governance Act 2019 for the sharing of the Unique Business Identifier Number (UBIN) data with the Office of the Revenue Commissioners, after successfully completing all stages of the DSGA Data Sharing Playbook.

The purpose of this DSA is to enable the consistent identification of businesses across the public service; improve the quality and accuracy of business data holdings in the public service and facilitate the efficient linking of business data within and across Public Service Bodies (PSBs).

As a new national identifier, the UBIN dataset will be beneficial to PSBs by harnessing data effectively, removing duplication of business records and leading to improved data sharing and interoperability to streamline service delivery, aligning with the principles to deliver a Digital and ICT Strategy for Ireland’s Public Service by 2030.

The UBIN dataset will remove the administrative burden on companies by providing PSBs with a consistent and reliable identifier. This will contribute to the further growth of a supportive data ecosystem for the Public Service in Ireland.
