EU Funds - Border, Midland and Western Regional Operational Programme

Investments in the Border, Midland and Western Region are made by the Border, Midland and Western Regional Operational Programme, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the Irish Government. The only exception to this is Sustainable Urban Development, which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the relevant Local Authority.

The programme is managed by the Northern and Western Regional Assembly. The Programme consists of several schemes, each targeting the Programme Focuses listed below.

Programme Focus

  • supporting Research and Innovation
  • rolling out Next Generation Broadband
  • supporting Businesses
  • transitioning to a low carbon economy
  • developing towns and cities sustainably

The achievement of these objectives will be measured against the key performance targets below.

Border, Midland and Western

  • 200 new researchers
  • 144,000 unserved households provided with high speed broadband access
  • 3,600 new jobs in micro-enterprises
  • 10,000 households with improved energy efficiency
