Project title: Transforming our Approach to Reasonable Accommodations for People with a Disability
Organisation: Public Appointments Service
Sector: Civil Service
Amount awarded: €45,000
The Public Appointments Service will utilise a design-thinking approach to transform the current approach to reasonable accommodations at both the assignment and job placement stage in the Public Appointments Service, and at the on-boarding stages for government departments and public service organisations across the sector.
Reasonable accommodations support disabled candidates to perform to the best of their ability during the recruitment process and are a key part of this work.
Intended outcomes:
1. Identify, in consultation with key stakeholders and service users, key barriers to an effective, efficient, person-cantered approach to providing reasonable accommodations for candidates.
2. Improve the candidate journey for people with disabilities applying for jobs through the Public Appointments Service (PAS) and local HR teams.
3. Build disability/RA confidence across the sector with line managers, hiring managers, DLOs and other relevant colleagues through sharing best practice and experience.
4. Reduce resources (human and time) currently required to hire/assignment and on boarding of candidates with disabilities.
5. Support the Government in reaching their 6% target for the employment of citizens with disabilities across the civil service.
