Minister Donohoe in Luxembourg to Chair October Eurogroup meeting

President of the Eurogroup and Minister for Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform, Paschal Donohoe, is in Luxembourg today (Monday), 7 October 2024, where he will chair the October Eurogroup meeting.
The Eurogroup will begin with a discussion on the digital euro project, where Ministers will focus on the key political considerations shaping the digital euro within the broader European payment systems. This will be followed by an exchange on the competitiveness of the European economy building on previous discussions on how to enhance productivity, innovation and investment in the euro area.
As a follow up to the March Eurogroup statement on the future of the Capital Markets Union, Ministers will be joined by European Investment Bank (EIB) President Nadia Calviño who will discuss initiatives of the Bank to improve financing conditions for mid-sized companies across the EU.
Ministers will also prepare the upcoming annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund and take stock of economic and exchange rate developments over the past months.
On Tuesday, 8 October, the Eurogroup President will attend the Council meeting of EU Finance Ministers to debrief on the work of the Eurogroup.
Ahead of the meeting Minister Donohoe said:
“I look forward to our October Eurogroup meeting as we continue discussions on how to enhance the competitiveness of the euro area, a topic that has received significant political attention in recent months. Following-up on our Eurogroup statement on the future of the Capital Markets Union, I look forward to welcoming EIB President, Nadia Calviño, who will share with us the initiatives she is leading on to deepen capital markets in the EU. We need to improve the financing conditions for our innovative start-ups and entrepreneurial companies as part of our work on capital markets. We will also have an exchange of views on the digital euro project and how it fits the current European payments landscape.”
While in Luxembourg, Minister Donohoe will also have bilateral meetings with the French Minister for Economic Affairs, Finance and Industry, Antoine Armand, and the Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domański.
