Climate Action Roadmaps

The Public Sector Climate Action Mandates, derived from the Climate Action Plans requires that public bodies produce a Climate Action Roadmap annually to report on progress towards achieving their 2030 Public Sector greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction and energy efficiency improvement (EE) targets.

The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications produced its first Climate Action Roadmap in June 2023 and updated the Roadmap in Q4 of 2024. These two documents are available to view below.

These Climate Action Roadmaps outlines the work undertaken by the department to date and our plans to reduce carbon emissions from our buildings and transport operations by reducing energy usage and shifting our energy sources from fossil fuels towards renewable and carbon zero energy sources. It is a working document and will be reviewed and updated annually.

Following on from the publication of the 2025 Public Sector Climate Action Mandate the department will update its Climate Action Roadmap within 6 months. This Roadmap and subsequent Roadmaps will be published on this page.


Climate Action Mandate Statement on Compliance

The department is required to complete annually a statement on compliance with the Climate Action Mandates on the SEAI Monitoring and Reporting platform. The department completed its statement on compliance with the 2023 Mandate in Q4 of 2024 as required by SEAI. This document is available below. In May of 2025 the department will report on its compliance with the 2024 Mandate and will publish this and subsequent statements on compliance below.

GHG and EE targets – key indicators report

The SEAI key indicators data report shows key performance indicators for the department's progress towards the greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency improvement targets. This report is published by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) as the department's annual energy statement following completion of each Monitoring and Reporting (M&R) cycle on the SEAI M&R platform. The report for calendar year 2023 is included below and future key indicator reports will be published on completion of the M&R annual cycle. The next report for 2024 will be available in Q3 of 2025.
