October 2019 National Sustainable Development Goals Stakeholder Forum

A key commitment in The Sustainable Development Goals, National Implementation Plan 2018-2020 was the establishment of the National SDG Stakeholder Forum. This was established in June 2018, and has held five meetings to date.

The Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment hosted the fifth meeting of the National SDG Stakeholder Forum on Friday 18 October 2019 in Dublin Castle, Dame Street, Dublin 2. The theme for this session of the Forum was SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

The key note presentation was given by David Donoghue, Former Ambassador of Ireland to the United Nations who chaired the negotiations agreeing the Sustainable Development Goals back in 2015.

This was followed by Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment Sean Canney TD, who spoke about the Volunteer Strategy, PPNs and the Sustainable Development Goal Champions. Following this there was a presentation by Columba O'Dowd in relation to the partnerships that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have fostered and grown through Global Ireland and our work abroad.

Following this there was a panel discussion with four organisations who are all part of the Coalition 2030 Umbrella – Valerie Duffy - NYCI, David Joyce - ICTU, Niamh Garvey – Trocaire and Micheal Ewing – IEN. A presentation on Coalition 2030 was also given by Valerie Duffy.

Presentations from the day are available below. Also available is the Facilitator's Report of the day's proceedings, which includes all topics discussed at the forum.
